Do you think science and religion oppose each other?

Religion provides two things science never can provide ... faith and joy.

There is no issue with science ... just with scientists.

If I had to jettison my belief in one ... it would be easy to give up science.

@questionWeaver: i strongly disagree that science provides no joy... there is so much beauty in mathematics. physics is awe inspiring and chemistry can literally blow your mind.

all religion is good for is giving people a (false) promise of hope to deal with the innate fear of death. and it provides simple rules for living from a time that is long gone.
@RedWidow:

Red ... your evil shows clearly

I have never ... as in never ... found joy in math, calculations, experiments ... or anything related to science ... if joy is found there, it must be well-concealed.

Faith has lifted me ... sustained me ... strengthened me.

I even have faith that science can reveal interesting aspects of nature.

Peace of the Lord

@questionWeaver: oh i know religion can be very comforting... its like a warm blanket that protects you from the harshness of reality...

a wise man called religion opium for masses... sure it makes you feel all nice and fuzzy, but the same is true for heroin

@RedWidow: (in your support) I do get your point, but to those of us thought to be heretics, religion is f'ing scary. The whole God vs Allah has the world consumed in strife and millions dying for complete bullshit.

Place me in good ole Massachusetts a mere 400 (or less) years ago and you'd be toasting marshmallows while I was being burned at the stake. That's pretty close to where third world Islam is now. And I'm supposed to be comfortable? I think you've lost your collective minds.

When I walk into your church, I don't feel the comfort of your god or anyone else's. My hackles stir as I watch the robotic masses magically dazed by their incantations. I've always felt the imminent fear of a pending lighting strike, like a tornado finding its sweet spot amongst the denizens of the local trailer park.

Your faith has killed more than a hundred holocausts. No wonder you believe in Hell. You've created it within your proximity, before death, not after.
@Adogslife:

Dog ... am thinking, you are one who should be fearing lightening strikes ... which demonstrates your faith ... welcome!
