Some pretty ridicule answers here...everyone seems to go with the obsession of English speaking medias for Le Pen. Very few seem to be aware that the rise of the far right in France is matched with the rise of the extreme Left. Yes, communists if you agglomerate their 3 candidates matched Mrs Le Pen's score. What made Mrs Le Pen and the communist gain ground is not a failure of Europe's social democracy, but the weakness (and wearing out) of the traditional Gaullist/socialist leadership. The French political spectrum is more complex than perceived. Mrs Le Pen will not win for a very simple reason, the great majority of the french voters are attached to European social democracy. Reading this election with British or US goggles will not allow you to understand it. In the second round, the estimates give Mr Macron winning with 62% of the votes. It is very likely to be the case.
