Is there way that I can tell if someone is recording video conversations?

I have guy friends that always ring me on FaceTime but always request video convo.

I'm not sure you can record without another camera..
But I'm not a Facetime Expert.

Maybe it's a phobia, with technology etc, I wouldn't want anything with my face on it to be seen publicly or ridicule.
