I've decided to break as many hearts as I can. Is this the only way to keep mine safe, break theirs before they break mine?

An eye for an eye makes the world blind. You may avoid having your heart broken by lost love that way, but it keeps you on the path of loneliness, which isn't much better.

Being alone doesn't necessarily mean loneliness.

That's true, at least not short term. I think it will turn into loneliness eventually for everyone though.
