Beat me to it! Except it's spelled "'Murica!"

I don't believe that's a good idea.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
No though most people with mental illnesses won't resort to violence, I don't think it's good that access is so easy.
But then, I think access to weapons on the US is far too easy generally, and it should be more restricted

@Salix75: Oh man.. well, that's her choice.. a bit over the top though..

Gun manufacturers and the NRA have given campaign contributions to politicians and this is merely an attempt to turn a profit. They should not according as it will merely lead to further deaths and incidents that very well might not be publized.

If they're ill enough to have a legal guardian.. uh no...

🤔 *sigh*
is this over the trump bill repealing the obammy gun bill keeping our veterans and senior citizens from purchasing guns?
*sigh*
folks with any mental impairments are caught by the current checks for firearm purchases; those psychos as of late on the media that 'slipped' though the cracks were the fault of the understaffed and mis-managed mental health systems nation wide. (ask me how I know - was in the profession)
It's a social and medical problem not a big bad scary gun problem.

Wow. You guys NEVER cease to blow my mind.
elVato · 46-50, M
@JaggedLittlePill: well, folks that have been treated and have a record of mental impairment have been caught under the pre-obammy system. how do i know? pre my current job i worked with folks with mental impairments and know how far into the system their impairments get fed; keeping them far away from firearm *purchases* - and a very close relative owns a gun store so i hear first hand info on folks getting denied for even tiny hiccups in their past - mostly stupid teenage crap that gets them involved in the mental healthcare system that keeps them ineligible for purchase.
and - i think both parties are piles of shit i side with neither.
and - i side on the welfare of the mental ill, the ones that are constantly fucked over by the political system by both parties, for their own political agendas.
and - i really side with the vets who come back and are treated like shit by the VA And govt - this includes the obama regime. I had second cousin that came back from the usmc that clearly had ptsd - everyone in the family knew it, his mother begged the VA for help, and they stamped him as OK. Well yes he was ok enough to go out and by a fucking 22 cal. rifle and kill himself. it's the guns fault. I know.
we can make this an argument about some pretty lame political agendas, but i like to think the people screwed by the system should come first.
ffs.
sorry. touchy subject for me.

according to Trump, yes they should....🤔
greenmountaingal · 80-89, F
It's illegal. They won't discharge you from a mental hospital in California until you sign a paper declaring you know it is illegal for you to own or purchase a gun and you have to swear you will never attempt to buy one.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
But not everyone with a mental illness is committed or hospitalized
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Define mentally ill.
elVato · 46-50, M
@Salix75: getting diagnosed and clinically treated for depression can/could leave you intelligible for firearms purchases... this was the case pre obama bill.
Mrsmeta · 46-50, F
If the depression led to unsafe behavior which involved the authorities, yes that could potentially impact a person's ability to purchase guns. An episode of depression the did not impact the community would not make one ineligible to purchase firearms
elVato · 46-50, M
@Mrsmeta: mmmm. Sustained long term cinical depression - not even addressing any sort or mania - depending on the treatment and long term outlook did and does.
Sorry if my clinical terms are a bit rusty. i come from the dsm4 days. I know the PC brigade got involved with the dsm and mixed up some terms.
So i'm told.

sure as long as they are not a felon

Unless they have committed a crime, yes they should.
Triplets111 · 61-69, F
If it's America they already do. I think it's their god given right to carry guns or something like that. My country if your mental ill you won't get a gun liscence but if they really want they could easily steal one
greenmountaingal · 80-89, F
It is illegal in the US.
Mrsmeta · 46-50, F
Nope !
Fauxmyope2 · 31-35, F
No, I believe that they should have access to guns.
