Is this really offensive or am I being over feminist here?

Today I had a meeting with a client whom my colleagues (men) warned me of that he is aggressive, however, he turned out to be quite nice to me actually and it was a good meeting, when I got back I told my colleague of that, and he directly responded that client was nice to me because i am a woman. Is that sexist? Why did he assume so and did not consider that I may have been able to communicate in a better way that gave better results?

Yeah, it is sexist, & a putdown of you. Of course, it might also be an accurate assessment of the client, but that's still a shitty, sexist way of putting it if so.

I thought so (on the sexist part), on the other hand, I am sure that this colleague of mine has a good opinion of me and wouldn't intentionally try to underestimate me. About the client, well not sure, he seemed fine to me, but then it was the first time I am meeting with him.

@UnhatchedEgg: Ah, in that case, your colleague may just be speaking from a position of deeper knowledge. Still a crappy way to frame it, but that sort of thing just sneaks into guys thinking & speaking, without intent.

@firefall: Yep It could very possible be the case, specially that he is a nice guy generally.
