Am I the only one getting a whiff of desperation from some of the guys here?

Confidence is sexy. Desperation is not. That applies to both men and women. Until you like yourself and fix what's holding you back, don't try to involve someone else into that mess. Change what needs to be changed, empower your life, and THEN you will find who, and what, you need.
