So this is what I have to deal with just because im black?
I went to temp at a practice they told me it was orthodontic treatment and this guy is super fast but I shouldn't worry too much as this guy hardly wants help.
Anyways, he comes in and I see he gives me the once over. He asks me if I've done orthodontic treatment before and I tell him yes I worked at ... hospital, he rares his eyebrows. He later asks me where I'm from, I say born and bred in London. He says no your family so I say Jamaica.
He then says oh I've been there before about 4 years ago. So I say oh really where abouts but he's sort of delaying a response. He mentions montego bay and traveling through the mountains to Kingston. So I said wow your very brave.
He then says.... yea where are your grandparents from so I say the areas and then he starts telling me on that islands east so I correct him and say no they're all in Jamaica but in the country.
Annoyed with me correcting him GE starts asking me, oh and do you know where your families orginially from in Africa so I said oh your talking about my ancestors, the patient walks in and he says fascinating that whole situation of how they came to those island in the Caribbean.
I then said where are you from? He said ahhh Brisbane, can't you catch the accent?
I said I don't like to presume.
I said interesting you know about the natives there you know the Aboriginal people they've pretty much been reduced to a marginal section of their land.
He shut up. For the rest of the day.
I was still courteous to him throughout the day as I would be with anyone.
But the nerve of this guy.
Why are such professional people so racist? Yea I said it...
This is what I'm facing when I go to work. Yes!
