How do the differences of opinion bring out a common understanding, or similarities, between the two opposing views?

When you start insulting someone else's intelligence or questioning their morality there's no chance.

Are you in some kind of sociology classes? All of your questions seem like the kind of thing that might be asked on an exam. Sort of like possible essay question.
