Why are people so bitter towards the valentine's day?

Because it's a commercial "holiday" designed to make single people feel left out, and couples spend ridiculous amounts of money on cheap tat.
If you love someone you don't need a "special day" to prove it.

I don't think it was meant to make single people feel left out, that's like saying Halloween is designed to make diabetics feel left out. I agree with the rest of your post though.
