Why use this?

Why do we feel the need to be socially anonymous on sites like this? I mean, I'm doing the opposite of that honestly but I see a lot of people on here want no one to know anything, not even their age. Speaking in general here, isn't it kind of an oxymoron for websites like this to even exist?

No. Not at all.

This is a safe place to talk to people. I don't show my age or gender, not so much for anonymity, but so as to not have people prejudge before they know anything about me.

I don't lie when asked, but I don't think it's necessary for people to know those things about me, to have a conversation. I could use any full name and any age and claim to be any gender. That wouldn't make it any more real than what people see here.

I like sites like this. As for oxymoron, what makes you use that expression. It's a strange choice of words for people who choose to use an anonymous site to be anonymous.

Oxymoron in the sense that being social means to engage with people while being anonymous means you don't want anyone to know specific details haha its like talking to someone at a coffee shop from behind a wall. But I get what you're saying :) i was just interested in what people thought

@RCGPruett: I get your meaning, but when I meet a stranger at a coffee shop, I may smile, chat a bit, but I don't feel obliged to give my whole life story to a stranger that I've never seen or spoken to before. I don't tell them my name and don't ask for theirs. If we meet often, perhaps, one day the time would come when some small details are shared, like first names, general information like living in the east end or up the hill.
