No. We have the luxury of free time - they often didn't. Life for many was hard and short.

@Thelovelylover: oops. Gotcha now... yes, many do choose to misspend their free time. But there are different ways of looking at it. Looking at a cell phones on the bus has replaced reading the newspaper (for example). And as John Lennon said “Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted" :D

@Salix75: yeah but they dont do that because they like it I think they do it because its more easy :/

Life before the Internet was fun. If you wanted to get a hold of someone and that weren't answering their land line phone you got in your car and and see if they were out cruising the strip. Windows down heat and radio blasting.

@Thelovelylover: no, it was just as bad when I was a teenager, actually it's better than it used to be

@crossproduct: oh trust me I get that. People annoy the crap out of me.
And I despise talking on cell phones. You can't hear yourself talk and everyone interrupts and it's just awkward. Irl or texting for me.

@abe182: I did resist carrying a cellphone for years, because I didn't want to be a slave to it, but eventually work forced me. I prefer texting, too, especially the lack of immediacy. It's okay if I reply in an hour, meanwhile I'm doing other stuff. I hardly ever make actual phone calls anymore.
I live out in the country, and the Internet is something of a lifeline to civilization. I don't live in New York where I can find any kind of person I like.

And then they update their status saying,im bored 😂 throw your phone and computer then have some fun.

It depends on who you ask. I'd imagine an eleven-year-old Victorian chimney sweep would have loved the opportunity to sit in a cozy room and stare at the colourful screen.
I understand what you're referring to though. Our use of telephones did go a bit wrong.

I asure you im having more fun inside than I ever would outside. And besides time I enjoy inside is not time wasted because I enjoy it
Thelovelylover · 26-30, M
you can never fully enjoy life in a virtual world and locked in your room
mic11225 · 26-30, M
@Thelovelylover: yeah I can its just not the life you could enjoy and that's fine.

@Thelovelylover: From my perspective, you can never fully enjoy life living in a city. You should see what the sky looks like on a clear winter night.

Maybe they did. I think some people are less lonely than they would have been. I take time out to be fit.
Thelovelylover · 26-30, M
I think they feel lonely because instead of going out and make friends the sit on the computer and phone.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Thelovelylover: I was thinking of the elderly and those that can't get out for medical and physical reasons. I do agree, there is life beyond the computer and phone.

People are always out & enjoying themselves around here. I actually wish they would stay home so i can enjoy myself.

I had a career change so I'm having much more free time now and much more fun, despite having less money.
