What are your thoughts on valentine's day? And why are people so serious about it?

I think it's a whole bunch of bull and just an excuse for people to brag about what they got.

It's just like every other holiday these days, very commercialized to make money for retail and restaurants. Back in my day it was just a box of chocolates for a girlfriend or valentines and small candies for school kids and their parties. It became a thing for guys to send flowers to girls in junior-high and high school when my daughter was young and a practice that needs to stop if it hasn't already, they don't need such distractions in public schools.
I agree it has become largely commercialized and overrated and I think it's ridiculous people get offended when it's pointed out.

@Poptartinvasion: Like the other holidays. This buying so much stuff for every holiday didn't get to be so popular until most people got credit cards, they can buy so much crap and decorations and things to store the decorations in because they are buying on credit and then paying it off later. People used to be a lot more sensible about these things. Even birthdays and weddings are costly now if people go along with the trends.
@cherokeepatti: lmao. America spends the most on weddings but has the largest divorce rate. It's ridicules all of it is just for show.

@Poptartinvasion: I know, it's a status symbol along with a huge diamond for an engagement ring and wedding rings....the money spent could be used for a nice down payment on a home....I haven't been to a wedding in many decades because I'm just not into this fancy stuff for showing off...the weddings most of the people I knew were not all fancy, they were sweet and most things were homemade or hand-made, dresses, photos, cake, punch & snacks, not a big dinner or whatever.
@cherokeepatti: simple is more meaningful. I love that about the people your surround yourself with.
