The movie [i]Raising Arizona [/i] depicts someone who simply finds stealing less cumbersome than a formal adoption process. All that adoption paperwork would have just interfered with his fantasy.

@TyphoidJerry: It says a lot about the mindset of many habitual criminal "losers." They have wonderful fantasies (the anti-hero in the movie calls them his "visions") but no sense of how to make their dreams into any sort of reality.
