I was born in England, spent 11 years there and then moved to New Zealand where I have been for 15 years. I consider myself to be from England.

That makes sense, you grew up here

I still gravitate toward the Brits. I find they understand me more, even after all this time.

@Magnolia: What kinda things don't the kiwis understand?

There are quite a few cultural differences, more than I would have thought. English humor is a huge one but also just my character. I'm not naturally bubbly or smiley most of the time, I'm pretty reserved and private but I have to force it or people say I'm a bitch. I don't have that problem with my British friends.

We do have the best sense of humour in England! But I know what you mean, people here are naturally very reserved and respectful. A lot of cultures misread that! I understand you! Did you take long to settle in?

Definietely, English humor is the best. I feel like there are a lot of societal expectations in England that there aren't here in NZ that can make me pretty uncomfortable. The one I hate the most is that often, friends will just turn up at your door without asking if they can come over. I've actually lost 2 friends over this because I tried telling them that it wasn't acceptable yet they continued to do it.
I didn't take a long time to settle in really because I was primary school aged and primary school here was the same as in England, I was just relentlessly bullied so it was just like home 😄
As I've gotten older I've noticed these cultural differences more and more.

Which part of England were you in? I always used to have people turn up at random when I was younger haha
Sorry to hear about the bullying though... you should have hit them back haha

Yeah kids just turning up when you're a kid is fine but I don't think it's really appropriate for an adult to just turn up without informing you!
I am from Bristol, how about you?

@Magnolia: oh I get you haha, Bristol lol Have you managed to keep your accent? I'm near to Birmingham

Some people here realise I'm not Kiwi but I don't think any Brits would notice I'm English
