How come the notion of A God/Gods and the spread of religion is so engulfed amongst humanity more than anything else can ever subsist?

I understand that people wanted an explanation as to why we are here, but I find it rather interesting that throughout history different groups of individuals all came up with relatively the same idea/s.Could it be because there is some truth to it or...?

Religion is more than just an explanation as to why we are here. As humans, we have a need to worship someone or something. As living creatures we are constantly changing, but how are we changing? We are changing to become more like whatever it is we perceive to be ultimate, that is we are becoming more like the thing that we are worshiping. The spread of religion then is not because everybody needed an explanation as to why we are here, instead it is because religion fulfilled everyone's need to worship. Does that make sense?

The need to worship part I don't think applies to everyone, but perhaps we all have the need to desire and adore something/someone.Might be why we have celebrities and any other people with some type of following.

You are on to something here .I have always seen the creation of the TimeLord's in Dr Who to be an example/hope perhaps even prediction of something humanity could become.

Everyone worships something. It's not always something spiritual, for example some people worship money.

Yea I guess your right in a way . We all devote our time and admiration to something . Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes the total opposite .
