How come the notion of A God/Gods and the spread of religion is so engulfed amongst humanity more than anything else can ever subsist?

I understand that people wanted an explanation as to why we are here, but I find it rather interesting that throughout history different groups of individuals all came up with relatively the same idea/s.Could it be because there is some truth to it or...?

Religion as you and i know it, is about control.
Control of the masses by the few !
You think about it.
Way back in the dawn of time, people worshipped the sun or the rain etc. To help grow crops, heal the sick, look after the livestock etc.
Then somebody somewhere came up with all these 'little people' that we were supposed to listen to.
Prophets; Priests; Shaman and so on.
Supposedly quoting the very words spoken by a single deity, once again. To the few.
How is it when god speaks to folk it's always one at a time ? Never at a football stadium packed to the rafters on game day !!!
And over time certain groups have gotten together to forcefully impress on the rest of us that this is the word of God and if you defy it we reserve the right to ex-communicate you; banish you; murder you ! Because it's the will of our God !
It used to really annoy the shit out of me watching the parades on the news in Northern Ireland.
Supposed Protestants and Catholics creating physical violence just because they didn't like the others choice in faith !
Some of them murdered each other in cold blood ! Setting bombs in cars; police stations; PUBS for goodness sake !!!
And they've ALL done it ! No exceptions !
I wonder if the Native Americans have it any better ?

People Playing God has been the main reason I don't do church anymore. ;)
I'm not saying you're wrong. Religion is about control, but you say it as though its a bad thing.
Society in all forms has always had methods of control for the population. Whether its religion or the government, army, police, education or any institution, its all about controlling people.

@Ax17x7: It's IS WRONG if you say to folk "Believe this and you'll go to Heaven" When you have NO evidence to prove that it's true !
And MORE importantly, religions are created (i believe) to SPECIFICALLY ostracize a section of humanity.
To deliberately create a "We're off to Heaven" party versus Everybody else !
@Picklebobble2: Although I'm not religious, I don't believe religion to be as sinister as you do.

@Ax17x7: I think it is harmful but because it's been programmed into the minds of so many it may be more harmful to not have it right now.

@Picklebobble2: actually I think the evidence is in your understanding and and dealing with all that life brings to you. Just my thoughts. :)

Oh i'm not anti-faith !
People can believe whatever they like !
And if it gives you comfort, solace, joy, whatever ! Good for you !
All i'm suggesting is that IF there were A or indeed, MANY Gods. Don't you think he might have stepped in during World war 1 !.?
World War 2 ? ANYWHERE to prevent The Holocaust ?
Famine in Africa where babies are being killed by parasites ???

@Picklebobble2: what is free will to you?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
To me ?
It's just another example of religious rhetoric.
'Free will' is the religious response to "Well, you do have a choice !"
Right up there with...."God moves in mysterious ways" or "God has a plan!"

@Picklebobble2: I think i do understand what you're saying. I also think God if we're going to use that name, is Love. Now to explain love. ;)
