How come the notion of A God/Gods and the spread of religion is so engulfed amongst humanity more than anything else can ever subsist?

I understand that people wanted an explanation as to why we are here, but I find it rather interesting that throughout history different groups of individuals all came up with relatively the same idea/s.Could it be because there is some truth to it or...?

Magical explanations are the easiest to conceive- and quite popular in the absence of rational thoughts offering roughly the same things. And so they will proliferate in distant lands without the need of social interaction. We mustn't become as foolish as to believe this commonality suggests truth in the notion of God.
