Why do people insist on pestering those who don't have children like there's something wrong with us?

It's rude to comment on someone's having or not having children. Perhaps a snarky response will shut them up.

I just think, for all they know I really want kids but am unable to have them. It's just rude to pry

What did they say exactly ?@Adelh91:

@juiceyangel333: I get it from a lot of people. I get the "do you have kids?" And when I say no it's like "oh, why not?" Like that's the only thing people want from life

@Adelh91: Exactly, sweetie. You never know what someone's circumstances are and to comment is just inexcusable. Maybe something like, "I'm waiting until I can afford them. I realize that might seem out of date, but I think it's the smart thing to do." Watch their jaws drop. Trust me, they will shut up. I didn't have kids and I've been through the same thing. Only people were even ruder, they'd ask is it him or you dear. Well, those who didn't know he had 2 kids from a previous marriage.

@Shattered: wow that's so rude! It's really none of their business, and I would never even consider children until I was stable and could support them and give them the life they deserve.
Plus I haven't found a man worthy of being a father to my children yet, I will not take second best when it comes to something this serious

@Adelh91: Yes, but try to remember, most people probably don't mean to be rude, they don't know any better. MY sister and brother who had children had only one each and my sister suffered the same thing. When are you going to have another. A shorter retort could be, excuse me, I'm not going to rush to make such an important decision. And if you look at them like WTF, it's more effective.
