Any idea why he would want that?

My boyfriend suffers with depression (im not sure how severe) but lately he has been very overwhelmed with his emotions and he began to cut himself again. He told me the other day (because he is very comfortable with me) that he wants to cut in front of me. Im not sure why and he never got a chance to explain.

By the way: do not worry we are seeking him professional help. Which leads me to more questions actually.

It sounds to me as if he might be seeking reassurance that you accept his cutting as being a positive move. If that's the case then maybe "well it's a shit coping strategy but if that's the best you've got go for it" attitude might serve as a reasonable holding measure 'till he finds a more permanent way of dealing with his things.

Cutting in front of you is attention seeking, don't feed it. It's not going to help him in any way and will only hurt you which will make you even less able to be of help.
