What does it mean?

My boyfriend has his ex on snapchat and her name is lets say Sally but her snapchat name has been edited to Caterpillar. He always gets a bit mad when speaking of her because she really mistreated him so he broke it off. But he has not deleted her number and still watches her stories. Why does he not delete her number?
