how do you cope with sight loss?

over time my sight is just going down hill faster and faster. a few years ago i only needed new glasses / eye tests every 2 years and now its every 6 months. the fear of going blind is depressing. how can you cope? if your in any similar situation how do you cope?

My friend had cataracts. But she's older. In her 70s. What does your doc say?

Have no solid answer yet. and its been months of visits and tests. :/

So, not cataracts?

@ShockWave1983: No. my mother had similar issues to me. she never had her discovered before passing. she just left it untreated. kinda wish she didnt cause at least id then know what mine is. or at least some idea. but she was older than i am now when her site started to go bad fast. i think nearing her 50s at the time.

@madscottish: I hope there is a treatment for whatever problem you have. I'm sure it's a scary proposition to have your vision failing and not know why.

@ShockWave1983: hoping to find out soon. they think its nerve related. maybe time to find a new doc. see if i get any better luck

@madscottish: a second or even third opinion is always a good idea. If one can't give you any answers keep trying until you find someone who knows what they're talking about.

@ShockWave1983: only fear is hearing if it will be incurable.

@madscottish: even if it is; even if you are destined to lose your vision completely, the sooner you know, the sooner you can begin dealing with the real needs. Like learning how to do things in the dark. Learning all the things necessary to live in a sightless world.
I know it sounds pessimistic, but I'm not trying to bring you down. I just think that the sooner you know what to expect,,the sooner you can deal with it. Find a good ophthalmology specialist. Don't take I don't know for an answer.

Good luck.

@ShockWave1983: yeah i refuse to accept blindness. cant imagine living like that. i feel bad for the blind. scary to think of when you have had sight before and then go to having 0 sight. id hate that. wouldnt know any different though if born blind

@madscottish: you're young. You have a child. It's true it would be devastating, but I believe that, as scary and awful as the possibility might be, if the worst happened, you would deal with it and get on with the business of being a man and a daddy. I know the Scots aren't wimps. You're a tough bunch. And stubborn.

@ShockWave1983: we are for sure stubborn HAHA! but yeah i suppose there is worse than blindness :P
