Snobbery in all things...

I was told dog owners are the most friendliest group of people.
Wrong...
I've met aggressive people, quirky people. And the worst the snobs.
I see a lot of women look at Bruno, I sense its the nurturing nature of us.
But there's a certain class of woman that looks at him then me and you see their face change.
I have been watching various dogs behaviour to see what they're like when greeting Bruno.
I'm no expert but I notice the most friendly natured ones lay down just like Bruno does to say "hey I'm friendly and you're giving off a good vibe".
Now I don't know if its because very few people know his breed but the greyhound owners more often than not are quite snobby.

I also see that in people that have these pretty dogs like pomeranians and toy terriers dogs.

Bruno is big for his breed but smaller than a staff but as big as a teen spaniel.
He seems bigger because he has tall hind legs.
He's been called a boxer, French bulldog, pug mix everything other than his breed.

Although I struggle with him on a pet vs human level, he has absolutely no problem with other dogs.

One thing I've noticed the few pet pawrents that have said their dog is aggressive or bark actually calm down in the presence of Bruno.
And this has nothing to do with me and my training.
Because he is always desperate to play.
But if I can engage them in conversation I try to whilst keeping the dogs apart.
Some are happy to talk perhaps because they're upset their dog isn't friendly whilst others give a wide birth.

One key thing I've learned is socialisation is key for dogs.

I suppose this is like when you have parents at the school gates you'll have different types and theirs a slight competitive nature to it all.
I hope I always find the level headed grounded kind people...

This is such a learning experience.

@V00doo it's crazy isn't it.
How are you getting on eiyh training?

I'm always mindful of Brunos behaviour but guaranteed if there's another dog close by if he was acting up he suddenly starts behaving because he really wants to meet them.
It's naughty but I get it.
So I can't understand the crossing over the road or the nose being turned up.
Yes I wear craplt clothes with him but it's because I really like to play with him and get as involved as I can.
@Mellowgirl He's not ours, so we kind of do what we can when we have him. Hes still a puppy, was 1 yesterday, so he's all over the place. My BiL does what he can, but hes not allowed off his leash 🤣

@V00doo ahhh I didn't realise.
OK that makes sense...
Recall is bad? Hmm...
Although he's not yours I'd try if you can...im going to be an annoying pawrent...

Advice I was given which has really helped.
Do you have a local basketball pitch. (I know they say no dogs allowed but I go when it's not in use.
They usually have locked gates, also because they're concrete it puts you at the advantage, it's hard on the doggies feet so they run away less.
But I let Bruno run, and move away from him, I call him but here's the top tip fresh pieces of chicken in chunks.
Do this 5 times at a time.
Also if you want to leave stand by the gate and wait call to them once.
Only when they come give the treat, make them sit whilst you put the lead on and wait 30s then proceed to leave...

I also find it helps to train recall with other trained dogs.

He's still not perfect but I've realised that stupid packet treats are nothing compared to the real pieces of chicken.
