Wondering if I should join the National Guard...?

Later on today (in like less than an hour) I'm supposed to be meeting with a recruiter to talk about joining a branch in the military, preferably the National Guard. But honestly, I'm not sure if I could handle the stress and anxiety of it all, but joining will help pay for school in the future, it'll help me work out and become physically fit which I've never been in my life, it can just help me but how's someone with severe anxiety supposed to join something like that? Everyone in my family is less enthusiastic because they know I'll fold under pressure and it's making me doubt myself and what I'm capable of...I just don't know..

Joining any branch of the military is NOT something you do just to try it out and see if you like it....it's a commitment. You are signing your life and all rights to it over to the government for the period of time you commit to, plus some. It's not a decision to be made lightly and you need to be honest with them about your anxiety. Keep in mind, recruiters are trained to recruit.....they make many promises and withhold information you wish you'd known before. Keep that in mind when talking with them and asking questions. Get EVERYTHING in writing and know that even that means little. That's the warning I'd give from experience. However, I will also say, if you do commit and decide to face the fears and anxieties that plague you, you will be a stronger man for it. There are other ways of achieving that goal, though. Job corps may be of interest to you. Take time and think very carefully before making your decision.
