You guys love convincing people that they're stupid so here's an opportunity. I'm open to it. Am I the asshole in this story?

I moved in 8 months ago. There's a cute dog across the hall who barks constantly but I let it slide because I like dogs and I'm a hard sleeper.

Well, after 6 months, I accidentally locked myself out of the building around 3 or 4 am. I wasn't about to sleep outside because there were mosquitos, spiders and pneumonia waiting to pounce on me. So I did the only thing I could think to do. I rang doorbells.

After two rings, a neighbor came down and let me in. I could tell he was pissed and I don't blame him. It was just a hard situation and I didn't know what else to do. He made it somewhat clear that he was pissed through a few hints, like saying, "Remember to bring your keys with you, ain't no one gonna let you in." Again, I don't blame him.

A few days later, I got an email from the property manager about a noise complaint specifically mentioning me ringing doorbells at that exact time.

I doubt it was the guy who let me in because he already made it clear that he was pissed and I already apologized to him. Also he doesn't live here.

It wasn't another neighbor because none of them saw me.

So it must have been his wife, who lives here.

I'm pissed. If any of my neighbors got locked out, I would gladly wake up and open the door for them. Especially if it was only once. I don't want them sleeping on the damn sidewalk.

But apparently she disagrees.

Now, every time I so much as open my door or do laundry, that dog starts barking and it reminds me of this bitch of a situation. I could easily file a complaint and get the dog taken away but I don't have the heart to do that to the dog.

If it was his wife, which you're not sure if it was really her or not you're just making that assumption but it doesn't matter anyways because people get mad over things like that and it doesn't matter how you feel about it. You inconvenienced them by waking them up at 4am just because you forgot your keys so they have the right to file a complaint if they feel like, and you don't have to like it but that's just how it goes. It could have very easily just been the guy who filed the complaint. Even if you apologized. It doesn't change the fact that he had to get up off his ass at 4 in the morning just to let you in. But i mean do whatever you want honestly. You can file a complaint on the dog. or not. idk, whatever.
@HannibalMontanimal Like I said, I would have gladly let them in.

@SinlessOnslaught Yes but how do they feel about it ? So what if you would have gladly let them in ? its still an inconvenience for a lot of people.
@HannibalMontanimal I'm not getting your point.

@SinlessOnslaught i'm just saying. It doesn't matter what you would have done. That doesn't mean people have to bend over for you and do stuff for you. I wouldn't have got up off my ass at 4 am just to open the door for someone who forgets to carry their key with them. Which is something that you should have on you at all times.

@SinlessOnslaught Yes and who fucking cares. Nobody. Stop forgetting your fucking key and then you wouldn't have this issue to begin with.
@HannibalMontanimal I don't care that you wouldn't.

Also I don't need to "stop" forgetting my key. It happened once. I have memory issues so that's pretty good.

@SinlessOnslaught Well you're the one who typed up the whole fucking post so what do you expect people to say ? You want people to feel bad for you ? is that what it is ? No one cares dude god damn

@SinlessOnslaught People are not nice. Get over it.
