So serious question here...

How do I get my dog to stop jumping up?

Whenever he greets a stranger he gets all hyped up and then he comes to me desperately wanting me to pick him up.
He jumps and jumps even if I tell him to stop.
Pulling at my clothes, almost like he's trying to get away.
When he falls on his back I can't help but pick him up and then I tell him to calm down.
His hearts racing and I calm him down.
I then say to him I will put you down now.

He stays still I put my hand on his chest and tell him to calm down.

And he resumes his normal behaviour.

@markansas everyday he grows in confidence, he has walked basically 3 hours today.
It might be too much but there are many hours in the day where he's trapped indoors because it's so hot.
Consequently I let him walk freely on the lead. I yank it slightly if he's going off course or close to the road but I let him sniff and explore what he wants since it's his time really.
I noticed that since I've allowed that he's getting calmer.
He just turn and put his paws on me but that's to tell me he wants a drink or he wants to rest.
And I'm happy to sit and accommodate that for him.

I think I get worried because I've really fallen in love with him and I just don't want him to be a burden to others or bite them.
It's not in his nature but you just never know.

I hate the unsolicited advice people give me when I'm walking him. I'm trying to train him according to what I will and won't tolerate.
I've never wanted a docile/placid dog, my home is his home. But he does need to respect my boundaries. Unfortunately that means he can come in my bedroom when I'm in there but he's not allowed to sleep in there because well that's my domain.
I need to be able to have some time for myself.

He does push it at night, but once he's in the crate he doesn't whine anymore he pretty much crashes out fairly quickly.
@Mellowgirl you are doing fine with him .. and the crate is a safe spot.. love that puppy and it will give back 10 fold.. mark
