Do you think people from detroit/metro Detroit are unfriendly?

I overheard some old couple at my work saying how this is the first place they've been where people are friendly and say hi. Are we seriously that unfriendly?

I know we are more guarded around here but sheesh i smile and say hey to people if they do it first.
