In about 5 billion (edited) years. By then the sun will have burnt all the hydrogen it has. It'll start to burn heavier elements. That means it'll expand massively eating mercury and Venus. It might reach us, even if not the earth will be ripped apart by it's gravity before it collapses back to become a cooler white dwarf
