@PhoenixPhail Years ago you'd have a tower with loads of excess space so they put all the international font type variations on. You'd have fonts scripts for Chinese letters wingdings type weird shaped fonts already just installed on the windows operating system you were using.

These days though the amount of fonts available keep growing but people now have tablets, phones, netbooks, etc, which don't just have a great deal of extra space so it's become more common not to include as many font variations particularly the ones you are unlikely to ever need. There is way they can get around this mostly like Windows10 as example will often simply convert the fonts into a very similar font type that your system has stored but every now and then you'll get a font type that the system either doesn't completely understand like there isn't a direct equivalent or the site you are using won't allow your operating system to convert them and that's when the square boxes appear.

You can still usually add the extra font packages though if you do need them. I mean if it was something you actually noticed a lot on the particular sites you use regular then it might well be worth looking into adding them but like I say they are non standard font types so windows10 and various android type devices just cuts down on the overall size of the operating system but yeah I've had this problem before. The system I'm on now is a really minimal Linux operating system and when I first installed it I never give any thought about the fact I'd only have the most minimal of fonts packages installed on the operating system, so I kept running into all these square boxes everywhere online, lolz.
