Canada protects pedophile identities. Why can't we have a public registry like the states have?

It's a difficult balance between allowing the public to know about a any risks nearby and protecting paedophiles from becoming victims of vigilantism.

They wouldn't need protection if they didn't violate people's children.

I feel that if it is a sex offender registry, the actual offence should be listed, because urinating in an alley is considered a sex offence. But if it's a pedophile registry, they can just take their chances that the child's family may wish them dead or worse.

Rape of anyone or any living being, should also be, if you don't want to suffer for destroying someone, then don't do the crime.
