Canada protects pedophile identities. Why can't we have a public registry like the states have?

Why make it public?

So they can be reported if they are hanging around parks, schools and other places where children are at and in my state they can't live near those places either.

@cherokeepatti: I don't have kids and I worry about this

@MikefromEP: I kept my eye out at the store where I was working. It wasn't uncommon for young children to wander off and try to get out of the store while their mothers were in line getting their items checked out, sometimes even happened at night and I always worried about having a Code Adam and someone snatching a little child in a parking lot before they could locate them.

@cherokeepatti: Wifey went to the dentist that was in a mall right across from a school. Saw a guy in a shirt that had Winnie the Poo characters on it not paying attention to it. She came out an hour later and the guy was still sitting there looking at the school. She confronted him and he basically ran to the major bus exchange and got on a random bus. She reported it to the school. God Bless her :)

Good for her. When my daughter was in elementary school there was a guy hanging around a very large overgrown lot (more like a couple blocks wide near an elementary school (not my daughter's school)...he had a Frisbee in his hand and told a boy his dog had wandered off into the grass and he couldn't find him....the boy volunteered to help him look for his dog. He got the boy to walk into the center park of the overgrown lot where he assaulted him sexually and stabbed him including in the eye and castrated the boy and left him for dead in a shallow water drainage creek. A search party was formed about an hour later for the entire neighborhood and a couple hours later one of the searchers heard a sound that sounded like a baby kitten...that poor little boy was still alive...they took him to the hospital and had to do surgery, never found the person despite the boy's description and police sketches. That same day a copy of a porn magazine had come out on the shelves of convenience stores nearby with a story of an attack almost identical to the boy's attack.
