Sometimes you just have to suck it up and accept them, hard as that might be.
Someone might see something in you that you don't realize is there, because the mirror we see ourselves in often isn't very good. But that doesn't make what they see untrue.
How about just smiling and saying thank you, even if you have to force it at first. Maybe in time you'll come to realize that they were right and, anyhow, rejecting their sincerely meant compliment, because it's hard for you to accept it, is kind of cruel. Maybe that was the only compliment they gave out all day.
