@Mellowgirl I think you are exposing behavioral class differences, in particular the differences in cultural interests. People who were "pampered" could be more into individualistic activities because they were allowed "lonely" moments. But it's not always linked with family incomes. When socializing is nothing more than bullying, the group has got isssues to deal with.
