Do you define everyone who voted for Trump by the worse of his rhetoric?

Do they all wanna build a wall, prevent muslims from getting in, say disrespectful comments against some women etc?

Its a tough one because part of me thinks yes and part of me thinks no.

It is said that people should 'own' what they voted for and that if someone voted for a candidate because of trade and economics say, then they are still complicit with his racism and misogyny because that did not put them off from choosing him. This has a certain amount of truth and Trump's election has seemingly helped to legitimise some terrible views.

However; by the same logic you could argue that all Hillary voters 'own' her foreign policy mishaps, her support for the prison system, NAFTA, bank de-regulation and (if you think its important) her email scandal. We know for a fact that many people voted Hillary as a lesser-evil only because they thought her less toxic than Trump and that many of her supporters are very much against the things described above.

Is it fair to give the same allowance to Trump voters, in spite of the fact he has fascistic tendencies? Perhaps it is, with caveats. Trump supporters who supported him as a lesser-evil and are open about his flaws are different to people who are uncritical of or make excuses for the awful things that he has said and done.
