My dad said no more dogs but one of my cousins convinced me to just get one and stop doing everything my pops says. Should I get one?

It’s been two years since my dog I’ve had since I was 10 passed away and I didn’t want another dog. She was 16 years old so she died of old age. So I still live with my dad and he said no more dogs. I really want to get another one but my cousin said, “So just get one.”
I told him, “Well I gotta follow my dads rules since it’s his house. He said no more dogs and -“ he cut me off and said, “Blah blah blah! Dad said this, dad said that. JUST GET ONE. It’s your house too and you’re an adult. You don’t need daddy’s permission and you don’t have to do EVERYTHING says. Be a WOMAN. What kind of dog do you dream to have?
Do you think he has a point? Most of my peers have been saying that to me saying that I need to be a woman and I don’t need my dads permission or wait for him. I’m an adult so I can do what I want to do. Be my own person.
I can’t afford to move out but I do have a job.
