How could one find out how many users this site really has?

When I go to look at all profiles, there actually doesn't seem to be very many considering there are people from all over the world on this site. Seems like there's maybe a couple hundred or so

It's probably not very meaningful but I am following almost five hundred people and most of those follow me too.

Of course some of those accounts are inactive but that does suggest that there are more than a couple of hundred.
