Kauai if the real estate weren’t so stinking expensive. Could grow much of my food organically year-round and ocean fish for fresh fish on the beaches.
@Mellowgirl depending on which part you live. The southwestern part of the island is very arid compared to the northwest which has a rain forest that gets the most rainfall of any area in the world. If I lived in the northeast part of the island I could have raised bed gardens, coconut & other tropical fruit trees, raise black pepper plants, cardamom spice, ginger, pineapple, have a salad garden and herbs, etc. and never have to water because they get showers almost every day. Sounds like an easy laid-back way to garden.
@Mellowgirl we can daydream…but seriously living on an island the size of the county I live in and being able to drive all over and see all those nature sites during the off-season would be excellent. There’s a real lazy river you can float down, the rain forest, whale watching, bird-watching, barbecues, etc. They used to have a ferry to the next island where you could go shopping for a day and come back but they stopped it due to the whales so now people have to fly (that would suck)….
@Mellowgirl the humidity in the summer might be a problem, I don’t know. I think I could adapt and my joints wouldn’t be swelling due to cold fronts and such. Compared to Oklahoma’s summer heat it seems really nice. You could cut down on your clothing not having to have clothes for cold weather and free up a lot of closet space.
