How proficient are you in English?

And do you think speaking English today is a necessity or optional?

I think speaking English accurately to someone I am conversant with is probably more important to me than it often seems to others I engage in conversation. At times I find it necessary to ask for a clarification as to the precise meaning of their conveyance.

If it is more more often than they do likewise I will know my supposition above is correct.

I am mostly competent in several variants of correct and vernacular forms of English speech used in the Central United States. And make that assertion with trepidation due to my awareness of the ubiquitous nature of sloppily educated contemporaneous adults who feel, and wrongly so, that sarcasm and mockery more profoundly demonstrate their intellectual superiority.
