We could all be god experiencing itself subjectively through different forms of sentient consciousness, giving meaning to its own existence by experiencing itself through fresh perspectives and imposing limitations upon itself. What would be the point in being all that is if you already are all that is? the only thing left to do would be to experience yourself.
Every perspective and view paves the way for new layers of complexity, making all that is even more complex every second like a machine that creates novelty.
The more novelty and complexity to build on, the more there will be thus giving way to new complex forms of existence and life, such as technologies and technological consciousness.

Well it would be natural consciousness as it is literally nature. Not so much trial and error, as it doesn't really have a goal, i guess it's like the universe is forming opinions of itself and thus creating things based on that, who knows..if you knew everything then the only logical thing to do next would be to experience yourself from new perspectives, thus becoming more of all that is.
