Do catholics still go into those little dark rooms and confess their weekly sins? I hated that as a kid. I always lied to the priest

My friend still goes to confession at a least a couple of times a month. I stopped going as soon as I was no longer living in my parents' home, when I also stopped attending Mass regularly.
