When you say i love you

Are you Just expressing yourself and you dont mind if the other person says it back or are you requesting/demanding the other person to say i love you back?

I'm expressing myself, and I hope they have some kind of positive reaction.
If I said "I love you" and they responded with "ok", I would feel pretty crappy.
