So.....EP was linked to a murder....among other things.....

Do you think it should have shut down like that or tried to fight? in a age where its getting harder and harder to stay anonymous and private online government is looking to give more control than ever to the police when it comes to being able to collect online information and DATA.....I guess the point is do you think every single story you ever told here every question you dared etc....I mean I know its not THAT bad but look at the groups here I am the other woman etc.....look at the Ashley Madison hack....what if tomorrow some one did some thing like that here and was able to put names to all of these posts?

If they had co-operated with authorities they wouldnt have shut down

Where life is in danger or has been taken they should co-operate bollocks to anonymity

EP is responsible for its own downfall

Ep closed itself down. It wasn't shut down.
The U.S. govt. threatend to close it as new 'terror'laws coming in meant they wanted details on every users email account.
E:P refused to hand over the data saying that anonymity was the cornerstone of it's existance.
The U.S. govt. said do it or we'll pull the plug.
E.P didn't so the government did !

Thank you for being a part of the EP community all of these years. Please know that we have looked into every option when making our decision to close the site. This was a very difficult decision on our part that we struggled with for months and we are just as saddened as our users.

The bottom line is that the privacy of our users is our top priority, and as online anonymity is being challenged more and more by government agencies, we simply no longer have the resources to effectively handle a slew of incoming information requests, subpoenas, and search warrants.

While we support proper law enforcement efforts, the potential for abuse is constantly growing as scores of new laws require compliance with intricate and sometimes contradictory privacy regulations for each country, territory, and state.
With Appreciation,
