Do you think we need philosophy?

UDontKnowMe · 80-89, M
If by 'we' you mean individuals, then as a science probably not. But it is essential that many people exercise their minds with it as it keeps society sharp and focused.

Of course! Pretty much everything to do with how we do things traces its origins to philosophy. Law, medical practice, politics, ethics, art, scientific method, literature... hell even gardening has a surprising amount of philosophy behind it. I'm writing an essay on it at the moment.

Good luck with that :)

@pato72: Thanks!

Sure. Philosophy has come to define western thought. We don't think of it as philosophy because that's just how we think... but how and why we do what we do originates with philosophers in a lot of ways.

I'd go further and say it defines pretty much every single society in the world. Chinese philosophy is particularly fascinating if you ever get the chance.

It would be nice if that along with deductive reasoning and logic would be the norm in schools once again.

yes, I think it's as useful now as ever

I agree with all of you ,but is not the human born with his own philosophy?
For example ,if you see an accident ,and someone was hit ,wouldn't you rush to him for help? even if he never read philosophy?
