When did you all learn to cook by yourself?

I have been in such a condition that I don't know how to cook most of the things but maybe it's just an excuse.

I could make some dishes, basic and simple stuff. At 29 or so I bought the Time Life series of cookbooks and worked my way through them. You could do that with any good cookbook or website with instructions. Eventually you get confident enough to start adding your own touches.

@Mamapolo2016 I like the Betty Crocker cookbook because it has a lot of really basic recipes to learn to cook for a beginner. I had other cookbooks but finding one for something simple like a basic apple or cherry pie was not in it, most of the cookbooks had fancier recipes and many times with ingredients I didn’t have on hand, and I lived in a rural area and couldn’t just run to a grocery store for one or two items.
@cherokeepatti Yes. I did an awful lot of substitutions with Time Life. Some of the intredients weren't available within two hundred miles!
