Is using the term "Going steady" an older phrase?

I was watching an 80's sitcom and heard the boy ask the girl if she wanted to go steady. And I just realized I haven't heard that for a while

Yeah, I do not know when it fell out of popularity but at one time, probably before the 80's, it meant "monogamous relationship"

@CestManan it was still popular in the 90s.

@everyoneknows Hmm, I thought by even the 80's, it was shortened to "Will you go with me?"

I wonder what young people say today when proposing a monogamous relationship.

@CestManan never heard that even. 'will you go with me'
do you mean 'will you go out with me' ????
i think the going steady one was still used by the older generations.
nowadays theres no proposal also theres barely anyone who wants commitments..

@everyoneknows Might have been a regional thing but yeah it was called "Going with someone" basically. And of course eventually "Going out with someone"

@everyoneknows lol I have heard people put it that way too. I live in Missouri. People might say "She is going with him"
