@Cofuzion people like to know what the person they are talking to looks like and as far as the naked pics because society has deemed nudity so taboo its the excitement if seeing that person nude as well as enjoying their full beauty

Trippy · F
Well said , and I concur. I've a girlfriend whom has written a doctorial thesis entitled The Catfish Principal. How social media has altered our general sence of trust in what we see. Personally, and in open vulnerability; as a user of popular dating sites... I find it ironic that some participants seek access to a separate App full of pictures...in order to somehow " verify" the current App full of pictures.

I simply suggest, as you've said... A site that provides live video connection. Again, ironic how a good percentage of those receiving that offer simply vanish. 🤔
Cofuzion · F
@Trippy It would be fascinating to read the findings of her research. However, a location equipped with video conferencing would be unsuitable for some individuals due to their need for anonymity to live in a fantasy.
People prefer anonymity for a variety of reasons in a place like SW.
We behave so differently on social media that it boosts the confidence that we lack in real life. Is the internet and social media instilling a fear of authenticity?
Yes. But, it is a false sense of confidence, not genuine. In the end I think it can harm, as some rely totally on this as their form of worth. It's such an unnatural way of communicating and interacting. Not the way we were meant to in the tangible of it.

It also creates paranoia and a host of other things. There are studies and articles on this.
Cofuzion · F
@Magenta ndeed, you are correct. I recently finished reading Dr Helen Odessky's books "Stop Fear from Stopping You" and "The Art and Science of Becoming Fear-Wise."
Stop Fear from stopping You is about fear, which is so pervasive that it frequently obstructs our dreams, career paths, and relationships. This fear generates narratives that insulate us from possible pain and failure – at the expense of our self-esteem, success, growth, and personal happiness.

@Cofuzion Interesting. It sounds worth a read.

People are much more likely to oblige.

It seem so. @BlueVeins

interesting point...I am an introvert by nature.
however, i can be very vocal in person or here if the post warrants .
Cofuzion · F
@SW-User Consider that many people are afraid to speak up due to displaced anxiety about being disliked. Others are obnoxious and impolite in order to blend in with particular crowds.
SW-User
@Cofuzion i agree completely.
i am older and being liked is something that i gave up on a few years ago

I don't Photoshop my pictures and the profile picture is me
I guess I try to act here like I would in real life so don't need the anonymity.
Cofuzion · F
@MrAverage1965 Not many people have your conviction.
Synyster · 51-55, M
I think a lot of people like living in a fantasy life.

Aldo Nova says it best.

@Synyster Wow I actually listen to the whole song. Definitely living in fantasy.

I don't look good without filters 😡

We all have that insecurity, anyone says otherwise is bullshitting. @assemblingaknob

I like pictures it’s a moment frozen in time.
But then again the people I talk to it doesn’t matter if it turns out they’re really a giraffe with WiFi. I think for some social media is an escape from their life. It’s nice to take a break from the seriousness of day to day living & pressure of demands that require solutions. Others use it as a platform to express those feelings. Some are more of their messy selves online than in person. Then some like to project their best possible life & self. I think it truly depends on each person versus everyone is one way. Certainly if you want proof that someone is who they are most would say knowing in person is the best way to get that certainty. Then we still have folks married to serial killers for decades who had no clue. I’m not sure the best way to truly be sure you know someone.

@Mrsbetweenfatandfit
It is entirely dependent on how social media benefits the user. I'm fascinated by the notion that sending a photograph can somehow act as a bridge between people. Individuals rarely send genuine photographs of themselves.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I’d definitely say though that temptation to have a “ fix all” button in their hands to cure any physical imperfections they see themselves is pretty high especially when you are right with how often the images we see are altered. Not just people either. Someone shared a story about this fruit tree which some artist had grafted many different types together. The photo shared was so colorful I loved it! [image deleted]@Cofuzion

Unfortunately the above isn’t the tree actually described & was just photoshopped with different colors.

It’s definitely not a dull topic of interest
