Oh how I hate technology !!!

Those of you who know me fairly well,
no doubt have a giggle anytime I ask daft tech questions.
If for no ôther reason than the answers would be self-evident to your average 9 year old !
As I sit here. My PC is 'updating'....Again !
I'm a bit concerned about the number of big corporations that you have to deal with just to do the simple jobs in life !
I-cloud. & I-tunes necessitate THIS particular update.
This concerns me for as far as I know, I don't use EITHER !
Yet they both want permission to 'Make changes to my computer'.
I'm used to apple sending me 200 pages of nonsensical legal jargon that I have to 'o.k' before being able to use my phone every so often.
But when you think about it, Google; Apple; Facebook; Amazon and probably a few others, ALL want your personal details.
Why ?
Where is the benefit to me in giving you my personal details ???
Yet they ALL insist on it.
So. I avoid Google.
I've left EVERY group I joined on Facebook. I use Amazon ONLY if I can't find what I want elsewhere.
Am I alone in feeling like I'M the commodity ???

Most updates are technical updates. They've integrated new code and the update is to ensure that your product can still function without errors.
It's not a big deal.
As for your personal information, I can see why you feel funny about it. But, your personal information is being used and collected without your permission by much less scrupulous companies. At least these ones are telling you about it.
As for the why? Marketing most often. Some of the permissions are just saying that you are agreeing to do business over the internet and you understand that you are sharing information like name and address for the sake of shipping, from them or a third party who sells through them.
They are not collecting anything that everyone else does not already have.

BUT THEY GIV THS SAFEGAURD THT THEY WONT USE THE INFO.... BUT STILL DOING IT
@Manganesia: No they do not.
And they do use the information for statistical reasons.
The ones who sell your information, those are the assholes. You realize the ad server on this site alone knows your habits, your location and what you do when your online? Even if you are using an ad blocker, they can still see you but you can't see them.
There are a few things to not give two shits about online. And companies 'collecting your information' is one of them.

'Technical updates" ?
"Still function without errors" ?
You'll pardon the expression, but I call bullsh*t on both !!
I live in a place where the company that supplies the Internet, has the balls to reduce access just so they can sell a BETTER one at a HIGHER price !!!!
"Yeah, sorry mate ! But if you pay extra, we can sort that out for you !!"
I don't feel at the cutting edge of technology my friend.
I feel I'm being CONNED !!!
@Picklebobble: The company that supplies the internet and the company that creates the programs that run on your computer are not at all related.

Internet providers are pieces of shit.

Software developers are often prissy little princesses who just can't do their work if they can;t work from home two days a week and leave early every Thursday.
Let's just say I know a few.
Most updates are for changes in how the program functions, fixing bugs, fixing security leaks that come with an updated OS. You want them updated.

Give me your purse, I'll look after it for you !

@TwiddlerOfThumbs: Related or not, I don't care !
I want to be able to use my phone and my PC without wondering who's trawling through my files every update !!!!
@Picklebobble: They don't trawl through your files.
I think you have the wrong idea about the information they collect.

@TwiddlerOfThumbs: It's ALL an unnecessary intrusion into your life.
I gave up using most sites years ago for exactly this reason.
I HAVE to use e-mail sites both for work and family. They're a necessity.
But disrupting my life in order that I-tunes can do whatever the hell it does just because I use an I-phone is wrong !!!
