What was Clinton's mistake in these elections?

Honestly, the mistake was the Democrats running Clinton. The party apparatchik was so intent on her being the candidate that the fact her brand of politics had alienated the entire country would just not register. If they threw their weight behind Sanders he may have won the primary, and he'd be President right now. Or Biden. Or ANYONE. Clinton was just damaged goods and possibly the worst person in the Democrat party to run. I'd love to see a woman as President, but not her.

I agree. Clinton simply had too much baggage and the party establishment failed to recognize how crippling it was. Sanders, on the other hand, is respected by people across the ideological spectrum and had he been the Democratic nominee, I'm convinced he would have won the election by a comfortable margin.
