You never replace it.
You just give love to another animal.
But the bond you once had will never go away and it never can be replaced by another.
I got another bird after mine died for example. Not even a month after his passing as well, yet I did it for myself and for the other birds.
A new pal that I could give love and affection to, and someone new to brind something positive to my other bird's life after the loss of a friend.
And when I held the new bird on my hand(mr.cookie is what I call him) I could already feel he was different from my last bird. That he was anything but a replacement. That he is himself, he's not there to replace or come betweeen my love for my previous bird.
But at the same time loss or grief comes from having love for something or someone with no way to give that person/animal that love. That's how I describe what the death of a loved one feels like. Because you can no longer give that love to said person/animal. And so therefore it's even more painful
