I don't understand people who'd message then ghost

These people who'd send a message, then leave me out to dry after I responded (few secs/mins later). Like... Why?

Cherry on top if they come back few weeks/months later doing the exact same thing. Seriously... 😑

It's not even in romantic setting, I found both men & women do this.

Not on SW, so not referring to anyone from here.
